Dear SSRA members,
It was great to see 370 of you in Mesquite! If you were not able to make it, you missed some very good information. Here is a recap of some of the information given along with links for easy access to the information.
Did you know that Rotary International has developed a partnership with the International Reading Association? They have. What does this mean for you? It means your local council may have yet another source to go to when asking for funds to support literacy projects in your community. It is yet another reason why your local council members should also be IRA members, too.
If you haven't checked out Maureen McLaughlin's books (especially those on guided comprehension), you may want to do so. They are available at both Barnes and Noble on-line and at amazon.com.
Read Write Think
Go to www.reading.org for the link to ReadWriteThink. There you will find a calendar of literacy activities. It includes lessons plans correlated to IRA/NCTE standards.
Think you have some great lesson plans that might work well for ReadWriteThink? Contact Kaylee Olney at kolney@reading.org to add your lessons to those already available.
Keynotes
If you want your own set of Mary Ellen Vogt's SQP2RS posters, e-mail her at mvogt@telis.org.
If you want a copy of Saturday afternoon's notes for Sarah Womble's keynote, e-mail her at swomble@comcast.net.
